site.btaBTA Press Club in Pleven to Host Discussion Marking Pencho Slaveykov's 160th Birth Anniversary
A discussion marking the 160th anniversary of the birth of Bulgarian poet Pencho Slaveykov and dedicated to Bulgarian modernism will take place at the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) National Press Club in Pleven on Thursday.
Held under the title "Pencho Slaveykov Today", the event is organized by BTA as part of a nationwide initiative taking place at all 33 of the agency's national press clubs.
The discussion will be moderated by poet, literary scholar and critic Yordan Eftimov. Participants will include Vanya Yotova of the Pleven Writers' Society, teachers Natasha Basarova and Elka Tsocheva from the Vocational High School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Pleven, and students Yoanna-Kalina Kirilova, Kristiyana Tsvetanova and Aleksandra Borisova.
The initiative was launched in Slaveykov's hometown of Tryavna on April 27, the 160th anniversary of his birth. Discussions have since been held in Samokov, Kazanlak, Stara Zagora, Kyustendil, Pernik, Haskovo, Kardzhali, Pazardzhik, Gabrovo and Veliko Tarnovo.
BTA's December issue of its LIK magazine will be dedicated to Pencho Slaveykov. In addition to reports from the discussions, it will feature 160 specially commissioned texts of 160 words each, written by 160 contributors to mark the anniversary.
