President Iliana Iotova Monday expressed hope that the explosion of a Ukrainian sea drone at Romania's port of Constanta would remain an isolated incident, stressing the importance of ensuring a safe and successful tourist season.

"I think we handled the situation very well this time. I hope this will remain just a single incident because the tourist season is beginning, and we have a responsibility to ensure that it proceeds in the best possible way for Bulgaria," Iotova said.

She was speaking ahead of her participation in the conference entitled "Towards Shared Regional Security for Peace, Stability and Cooperation in the Balkans and the Black Sea", organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the Institute for Economics and International Relations.

Iotova said the Bulgarian authorities had maintained close coordination with the Ministry of Defence, which was in constant contact with the relevant Romanian authorities and their Ukrainian counterparts.

She praised the institutions involved for their swift and adequate response, saying they had acted quickly enough to ensure that there was not the slightest danger to Bulgarian citizens.
