The Council for Electronic Media (CEM) hosted a working meeting with the Director General of Uzbekistan's National Information Agency (UzA) Abdusaid Kuchimov and Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Secretary General Julia Sokolova on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by CEM Chair Gabriela Naplatanova and council members Simona Veleva and Kadrinka Kadrinova.
Kuchimov is visiting Sofia where he signed Tuesday a partnership agreement between UzA and BTA with BTA Director General Kiril Valchev.
During the meeting, he highlighted the positive development of Bulgarian-Uzbek relations and outlined UzA's efforts to modernize Uzbekistan's media landscape.
CEM representatives presented the structure and role of Bulgaria's media regulator, while both sides discussed the challenges posed by disinformation, fake news and the growing influence of manipulative content on public opinion.
The participants stressed the importance of independent journalism, professional standards and accurate reporting, particularly in the context of international conflicts, including the war in Ukraine. Kuchimov also presented UzA's activities and plans to expand its international presence, including the possibility of opening a representative office in Bulgaria.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing readiness to strengthen cooperation between the media institutions of Bulgaria and Uzbekistan.
