There are no reports of casualties following the floods in the Veliko Tarnovo and Gabrovo regions, Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev said in response to a reporter's question in Plovdiv on Saturday.

He said evacuations in the settlements are being carried out as a precautionary measure. “We are doing everything necessary and possible to act preventively so as not to allow any casualties. Teams on the ground are assessing the damage caused by the floods, and we will begin repairs as soon as possible. The good news is that river levels are expected to fall, but we are closely monitoring the situation in both the Gabrovo and Veliko Tarnovo regions,” Demerdzhiev said.

The Yantra River overflowed its banks in Gabrovo due to heavy rainfall on the night of May 22–23. Later that evening, the Gabrovo Municipality declared a state of emergency for parts of the area due to the torrential rains.

Early on Saturday morning, the press office of the Veliko Tarnovo police also reported that the Yantra River had overflowed overnight, flooding homes, yards, and other areas along its course. The entrance to the city from Stara Zagora has been closed, with detour routes in place. In Debelets, the stadium, industrial zone, and the Asenov neighbourhood have also been affected. A state of emergency was declared in Veliko Tarnovo Province overnight due to the heavy rainfall
