Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova spoke by phone with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Friday.

During the conversation, which was initiated by the Egyptian side, Minister Abdelatty congratulated Velislava Petrova on assuming the office of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and wished her success in carrying out her official duties.

The two discussed the current agenda of bilateral relations and the upcoming concrete steps toward advancing political dialogue and expanding trade and economic cooperation in the context of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Arab Republic of Egypt. Particular emphasis was placed on holding the second session of the Joint Cooperation Commission in Sofia, chaired by the two foreign ministers. The chief diplomats also exchanged views on some of the leading international issues directly affecting the national interests of both countries.
