Executive Director Meritxell Martell and President Gerben Dijksterhuis of the Group of European Municipalities with Nuclear Facilities (GMF) visited the Municipality of Kozloduy. The municipal administration announced this on its Facebook page, adding that the two-day visit was related to an exchange of experience and familiarization with the development of the region, nuclear energy, and the municipality’s cultural and historical heritage.
During an official meeting with Mayor Marinela Nikolova, the guests were introduced to the history, economic development, cultural life, and the strategic importance of Kozloduy as Bulgaria’s energy center.
Within the framework of their visit, they toured the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, the plant’s training simulator, the National Radioactive Waste Storage Facility, and the National Emergency Management Centre.
During the visits, the guests were familiarized with the high safety standards, modern technologies, and professionalism of the specialists working in the nuclear industry in the region, the municipality said.
The Group of European Municipalities with Nuclear Facilities (GMF) is a not-for-profit association of municipalities and associations of municipalities with nuclear facilities across European countries. Currently GMF is supported by municipalities with nuclear facilities from Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Finland, Hungary, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
