site.btaBill to Curb Agricultural Produce Prices to Be Submitted Monday, Agriculture Minister Says

A bill aimed at curbing the prices of agricultural produce will be submitted to the National Assembly’s registry office on Monday by Progressive Bulgaria MP Yavor Gechev, Agriculture and Food Minister Plamen Abrovski said on Saturday. Abrovski was among the official guests at the Strawberry Festival in the town of Krichim (near Plovdiv, Southern Bulgaria).

“We have a strategy. It is very well outlined in our party’s programme. Our main goal will be to turn agriculture into a business, because money should be a means, not an end in itself,” Abrovski said. “I hope that under the next Common Agricultural Policy Bulgaria will be a leader and demonstrate that agriculture is not only about grain production and that subsidies should not be granted solely on the basis of land area,” the Minister added.

Abrovski stressed that support for local producers remains among the Ministry’s leading priorities, with the aim of preserving traditional farming practices and encouraging high-quality Bulgarian production.
