Orange alert, the second of three warning levels, has been issued for heavy rain on Thursday in the southern Bulgarian regions of Plovdiv, Smolyan, Kardzhali and Haskovo. The four regions will get a rainfall of 35 to 65 litres per square metre. The lowest, yellow, alert is in place in 15 other regions, which are expected to have 20 to 35 l/sq m, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology said on its website.

The Institute also announced yellow alert for strong wind and high waves in the Black Sea on Thursday. The waves will reach 4 degrees Douglas.

The general weather forecast for Thursday says that Bulgaria will have cloudy skies and precipitation across its territory, particularly abundant in the south and in mountains. Wind will be moderate, temporarily strong, blowing from the east-northeast. Highs will be 7 C to 12 C, in Sofia 7 C.
