In 2025, the number of trips of Bulgarian residents abroad was 9,848,200, or 6.3% above the registered in 2024, the National Statistical Institute reported on Tuesday.
The trips with other purposes (as a guest, education and visiting cultural and sports events) composed the greatest share of the total number of trips of Bulgarian residents abroad - 41.2%, followed by those with holiday and recreation purposes - 40.8%, and with professional purpose - 18.0%.
The number of visits of non-residents to Bulgaria was 13,608,200, or 2.7% more in comparison with the previous year. The predominant share of the visits was with other purposes - 45.0%, followed by trips with holiday and recreation purposes - 44.4%, and with professional purpose - 10.6%.
The transit passes through the country were 32.8% (4,468,800) of all visits of non-residents to Bulgaria.
The tourism sector recorded a 5.8% increase in visitors in 2025 compared to the previous year, according to final data from the National Statistical Institute, presented earlier in the day by outgoing Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh. According to Borshosh, this is the first year in which visitor numbers exceeded 9.5 million, which he described as a strong indicator of the sector’s development.
