The largest price increase on an annual basis in January was in the "Entertainment, Sports and Culture" group which includes veterinary services, package holidays, fitness services and those related to dancing, said the Chair of the National Statistical Institute (NSI), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Atanasov, on Tuesday during the regular briefing of the National Coordination Mechanism for Monitoring and Control of the Introduction of the Euro.
According to Atanasov, restaurants and hotels have noted price increases of 9.2%, in educational services - 8%, related to the increase in fees for various schools for children, as well as in some universities. In alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, a 6% increase is reported while food products and non-alcoholic beverages, have an increase of 3.9%. Decrease in prices are reported in the groups of healthcare, information and communications, and transport.
Atanasov reminded everyone that the NSI published preliminary inflation data for January on Monday. "Monthly inflation for January compared to December is 0.6 %, annual inflation for January this year compared to January last year is 3.5 %, or between the preliminary inflation data (flash inflation) and the final data there is only 0.1 percentage points," Atanasov said.
