In Brussels on January 19, Bulgarian Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova will take part in the first regular meeting in the Eurogroup since this country's accession to the eurozone on January 1, 2026, Petkova's Ministry said in a press release on Monday.

At the meeting, Petkova, the European Commission and the European Central Bank will update the Eurogroup countries' finance ministers on the state of play on the changeover to the euro in Bulgaria.

The participants in the meeting will also exchange views on the policy priorities for the euro area based on the draft Euro area economic policy recommendation for 2026 presented by the Commission.

On January 20, Petkova will attend a regular meeting of the EU Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN). The Cyprus Presidency of the EU Council will present its work programme for the first semester of the year in the field of economic and financial affairs. The Council is expected to approve conclusions on the 2026 alert mechanism report, which initiates the European semester's annual macroeconomic imbalance procedure. The Council is expected to adopt implementing decisions approving modified recovery and resilience plans, submitted by Spain, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands and Ireland, the Bulgarian Finance Ministry said.
