The Day of Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture, May 24, was celebrated at the Bulgarian Cultural and Information Centre with the travelling exhibition "Together on the Path of Cyril and Methodius", an art installation titled "About the Letters", and a programme prepared by children from the Bulgarian Sunday school "Zdravey".
The "About the Letters" installation, created by association Duhovno Ogledalo (Spiritual Mirror), featured 32 umbrellas decorated with letters from the Cyrillic and Glagolitic alphabets and their meanings. The works were created by children aged between 5 and 15 from creative workshops in Bulgaria.
Another installation featuring colourful roosters made by young people from Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Italy and Ukraine as part of an Erasmus+ project also decorated the centre.
The exhibition "Together on the Path of Cyril and Methodius" was developed by internet radio Tatkovina together with Bulgarian Sunday schools in Greece, Turkiye, Italy, Hungary and the Czech Republic. The exhibition includes 56 panels featuring letters illustrated by children and has already been shown in a number of countries.
"This is not just a date on the calendar, but a spiritual landmark," said Antonia Veleva, director of the Bulgarian Cultural and Information Centre in Skopje. "The Cyrillic alphabet reminds us that the script given to the world by the Thessaloniki brothers is still alive today."
