Wearing of Mask or Other Covering over Nose, Mouth Made Compulsory until May 13
April 24 (BTA) - An order issued by the Health Minister on Friday obliges everyone in outdoor and indoor public places to wear a face mask or another covering over their nose and mouth (scarf, towel, etc.) until May 13, the Health Ministry reported.
The new order was prompted by the worsening outbreak of COVID-19 in Bulgaria and the increasing number of registered coronavirus cases.
Wearing a protective mask when visiting public places reduces the risk of infection both for the wearer and those around them. It should be taken into view that in many cases the infected person has no symptoms, meaning that they could be spreading COVID-19 without their knowledge, the Health Ministry explained.
The scientific data currently available show that the coronavirus can survive on metal, plastic and glass surfaces for a long time. Therefore, by wearing a mask citizens reduce to a minimum the risk of getting infected, the Health Ministry also said.
