Prime Minister Borissov, US Secretary of State Pompeo Have Phone Talk
Prime Minister Boyko Borissov talked over the phone with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at the latter's request, the government's information service said on Tuesday.
Borissov and Pompeo discussed the cooperation in security and defence, and past successful military exercises. Other issues that were discussed were energy security, energy diversification and the future gas distribution hub in Bulgaria, investments, and bilateral relations.
The two officials dwelled on the productive visit to Sofia last week of US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan. Borissov told Pompeo that there are already solutions to many of the topics discussed with Sullivan.
Borissov and Pompeo stressed their commitment to enhance and accelerate even further the geostrategic partnership between Bulgaria and the United States.
Borissov once again offered assurances that Bulgaria fully implements its commitments to NATO. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the increase of defence spending to two per cent of the Gross Domestic Product by 2024, as well as earmarking more investment in armament and equipment. RY/ZH
